We started from Rameswaram on 26th December 2017 saying to ourselves “Let it rain, let it pour-
don’t forget to explore!” The ride was around 350kms and the weather was
wonderful through out the day after last night’s thunderstorm. We hit the East
coast road then NH 44 covering Rajasooriyamadai, Vembar, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli,
Muppandal and Kanyakumari.
We were slightly behind the schedule
by couple of hours, which turned out quite fruitful. We figured out that there
is Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial, my favourite Indian president so far and we
paused to salute a great soul. Later we briefly stopped at the Pamban road
bridge to gaze at the hundreds of colourful boats rocking beautifully on the
sea green ocean on the windy day and had a light breakfast at a highway stall
before we hit the East Coast road. The ride was spectacular though palm lined
roads followed by vast expanse of saltpan before Thoothukudi - a first hand memorable
experience of salt mining from seawater while all this while we have watched
only on the television sets. The ride around Thoothukudi was little nasty due
to the trailer trucks causing huge traffic. Air pollution and hunger pangs do
not go hand in hand making us desperately look for restaurants but luck ran
out, there were hardly any restaurants for the next 50kms that too post noon.
Being a believer of “better late than never,” we finally found Puspa Restaurant
near Tirunelveli and had the most delicious meal and savoured every morsel. As
we rode we came across the breathtaking view in Muppandal, we halted to click
pictures of the thousand of windmills with the beautiful hills at the backdrop.
We reached Kanyakumari late noon and quickly freshened up at the hotel and
headed out for the Kanyakumari tour.
Sunset View Point
We rode to the Sunset viewpoint
and as the sun started to set, the sky changed into different shades of orange
making it so alluring. The evening was spent well marveling the Our Lady of
Ransom Church, the 17th Century Gothic Revival architect church was
pristine and its interior was surreal with the shrine beautifully shinning at
the altar. We had a simple dinner- rice, fish curry and fried fish at Sea View
Restaurant, the food was wholesome and yummilicious.

The following day we woke
up early and walked to the Sunrise viewpoint however the clouds had other plans
and the sun played peek-a-boo.

Vivekananda Rock memorial
Later we took a ferry to the Vivekananda Rock
memorial, which was a short fun ride. There was a magnificent statue of the
Swami and few bookstores. The place was really windy and felt like I was going
to be thrown into the ocean. The 133 feet tall statue of Thiruvalluvar was
impressive however the visit to the rock was closed due to low tide. The
experience was enthralling and we quickly packed, all set to ride to our next
pitstop – Trivandrum.

Hi! My name is Snigdha, a foodie with no waistline, I'm not a gourmet chef but a home cook and love to go on motorcycle tours with my partner, MJ. I'm from Tura, a quaint town in Meghalaya & currently live in Bangalore, where employed as a Human Resource Professional.
In this channel, I bring forward my love for North East Indian food & motorcycle tours that can be only foretold by sharing them with all those who love life and food. I portray my love for life through Food, which being a holistic way that represents our culture and ethnicity through which we can gorge the delicious pleasures of life and love. Cooking is a complete stress buster with little ideas, confidence & energy; we can cook up a storm.
Travelling is something that I always look forward to as its true testament of pushing the boundaries as motorcycling comes with its own challenges.
