Assamese style Chicken & Turnip Curry |
Mula di murgo mangxo is an
Assamese style recipe where chicken is cooked with turnip. This delicious chicken
gravy is typically prepared during autumns and winters in North East India. You
will be amazed by how incredibly delectable this healthy recipe is, where the peppiness from the turnip is perfectly contrasted by the chicken. The meat is
tender and absorbs the flavorful spices and condiments. The dish looks
beautiful and just perfect with piping hot steamed rice when the cold airs
fills the homes.
INGREDIENTS
1.
Chicken
500 grams
2.
Turnip
roots 400 grams peeled and large diced
3.
Onion
1 medium sliced
4.
Cumin
seeds 1 ½ teaspoon
5.
Garlic
15 to 20 cloves
6.
Oil 4
tablespoons
7.
Mustard
seeds 1/3 teaspoon
8.
Bay leaf
2 to 3
9.
Green
chilies 5 to 6 slit
10.Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon
11.Salt to taste
12.Coriander leaves for garnishing
PREPARATION
1.
First
make a fine paste of garlic cloves, green chilies, onions and cumin seeds in a
grinder and keep it aside.
2.
Now
heat oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds and let it splutter and immediately
add your finely chopped onions and Bay leaf - stir it on a low flame for couple
of minutes.
3.
Add
salt to taste and turmeric powder - stir them well for a minute.
4.
Add the
chicken pieces - stir and open cook it for 10 minutes on a medium flame.
5.
Now
add your chopped turnip and the paste - which we made earlier- stir them well,
cover and cook it for 10 minutes.
6.
After
10 minutes open cook the dish by stirring continuously for at least 5 minutes.
7.
Add 4
cups of water – stir, cover and cook it for 30 minutes on a medium to low flame
and stir occasionally in between until the meat is tender.
8.
Finally
add your chopped coriander leaves - give it a quick stir and your dish is ready!
